Conformity

Fuck it.

Over the last few months i’ve noticed a lot of changes in the automotive “scene”. The fitment game is coming on stronger than ever and everyone is using everyone else for so called ‘inspiration”.  There are very few people who do things their way,yes they may buy parts and put them on themselves but they don’t put any thought in to it. It’s as simple as typing in a website and a few clicks later you can find the perfect set up for your car, two more clicks and wheels and suspension are ordered and all off a sudden, their posting the set up on every forum known to man.

C’mon, what happened to sticking your neck out their and doing things in a different fashion,old fashion if you will. Take away the forums and all the cookie cutter magazines and do things on your own, get a tape measure,pen and paper then go and take a few hours to figure out how you want things to work and fit. I received two magazines in the mail today, the only two i read, Hot Rod and S3 magazines. Both of which stay true to the form, not sure if that phrase fits the bill but whatever. In Hot Rod guys are still taking cars and doing things they way they want, going to you-pull-its, junkyards and swap meets to find parts, they don’t pull out a catalog and blow thousands of dollars on parts they everyone has. These guys haven’t changed, they push their cars further and further but they do it by means of thought, not throwing money at it.

I drive a Saturn, yes, a Saturn. Do i get laughed at? Hell  yeah. Do i care? Fuck no. Why? Because, it was my first car, i’ve worked on it myself, there is no aftermarket. Which means I have to wait for “group buy ins” or someone to part out their car to get some decent parts. This car has taught me to have patience and how to save money. Most importantly, how to do things myself. While Reading s3 magazine, which i must say, Jonathan Wooley, the editor, is an amazing writer, he gives you a sense of urgency which every other magazine does without. A sentence that stood out to me was; “We don not need more 9-to-fivers..fucking up traffic.” This fits my long ass winded rant related post, conformity, that sentences sums it up. Be different and do shit on your own, sign out of your forums and put your mind to work, it’s their for a reason.
